      This “1990s dream life” meme is ahistorical.

      What people are picturing isn’t the 90s, it’s a fantasy of the post-WWII boom (50s–70s) with a little early 80s leftover stability.

      By the 90s, theere was already a recession (1990-91), manufacturing jobs were disappearing, unions were in decline, wages had already started stagnating, college costs were rising

      Buying a house at 25 with a single income wasn’t the norm, it was the exception, and mostly for a specific slice of people.

      We’re not falling from the 90s. We’ve been on the same trajectory for decades
