    1. Obviously these reactions can (fairly) be attributed in large part just blatant sexism, however it’s important to note that there was not a single western commercial airline pilot that was a woman until 1969, so even if you didn’t believe that it was a problem, it would be shocking/surprising to hear that.

Co-worker I had: His mother was one of the first 25 female pilots in the USA. There would be comments on the radio when she would talk to the control tower, like: “Another lonely kitchen,” and some more crude comments.

Who got katy perry involved in this ?

Otherwise , just perfectly ok from me.

    4. One thing of note: liesure airline travel was MUCH newer and more dangerous back then. Women also made up a much smaller part of the workforce, let alone highly skilled positions.

This would’ve been noteworthy any way you slice it.

    5. Can someone find the guy from the last part of the video? I want to send flowers to his family.

    6. Really glad about the very last second of this video, cause it was making me a little butt hurt until then.

Fun fact: Over 1,000 women served as pilots during WW2, but not in combat. They flew almost every type of military aircraft in the U.S. inventory, including heavy bombers like the B-17 Flying Fortress and B-29 Superfortress, and they flew to free up male pilots for combat duty.

    8. This is why that “the doctor was his mom” riddle worked. Hell, it still worked when I was a kid in the 80s.

    9. I’m sending this to my cousin! She’s been a commercial pilot for the past 20ish years

    10. Clips like this make me grateful to have the opportunities I have today.  Thanks to all the ladies and dudes before me who got us this far!

    11. My friend’s 90 year old grandma had trepidations about seeing a 40 year old female doctor. I reassured her that women can be better doctors than some men and not to base the doctor’s merit on her gender.

I see why she thinks that way now.

    12. It’s sad that some people think these are the “good old days.” and want to drag people back there.

My cousin is a first officer for a airliner.

She still has people come up to her today and say stuff like wow a female pilot, other older women being proud.

A woman flying a plane? Why next you’ll tell me they can get credit cards without their husband’s permission.

      The woman’s reaction. 😂

Women don’t support other women. Women don’t watch or follow the WNBA. Women are each other’s worst enemy.

“Social experiment” my ass, it’s an episode of Candid Camera.

      Season 4, Episode 1. Aired September 8th, 1963.

Born in 1964. One of the biggest riddles of our time was: A young man is rushed into emergency surgery after a car accident that killed his father and critically injured him. The surgeon walks in and says, “I cannot operate on this patient, this is my son” Who is the surgeon?

In case you didn’t know back then you were allowed to buy temporary life insurance policy’s at the airport that lasted during the duration of your flight!

this was whiplash to people’s minds back then, it’s understandable to have that reaction.. but the man surprised me! how cool

    20. HearYourTune on

That’s like that stupid old joke/riddle about it was the surgeon child but he was not the father, how could it be possible.

The men said “it’s wonderful” and the women instead “i shouldn’t say that” and laughs.

And then you hear stuff coming out of Charlie Kirk’s mouth about a black pilot

and you have to check your watch to see if you’re still in the 21st century

    23. Ashamed_Assistant477 on

There were earlier female pilots, commercially I’m not sure who was first but in 1939 Amy Johnson was flying commercial Portsmouth to Isle of Wight trips.
