One of two trophies located in the New Sacristy of the Medici Chapels in Florence, part of the Basilica of San Lorenzo complex. These trophies were part of Michelangelo's original project to decorate the tombs of the Medici dukes (Lorenzo and Giuliano), but were never completed according to the original plan. The sculptures are composed of a rich variety of decorative elements typical of Mannerism, including breastplates, shields, crests, masks, festoons, and rams' heads. The detail that often draws attention  is a small fantastic creature that seems to emerge from the collar of the armor.
