I remember when Quickbooks software started doing this even though you owned it.

Eventually they did away with “ownership” entirely and locked you into a subscription service which required an online connection every time.

Then they started sunsetting all desktop software in favor of Quickbooks Online (virtual environment/website)

Late stage capitalism is neat ain’t it lol

    2. How does that work? If a game already has DRM, it already needs internet, doesn’t it?

This has been debunked. Sony is implementing a one time check 30 days after purchasing a game to patch a way people were able to refund their games but still keep them and play them. After the first check Sony issues a perpetual license and it doesn’t check again. Not a big deal people. This stops theft, that’s all.

    4. Every day I think that Sony have run out of foot to shoot themselves in, but everyday I am surprised that they somehow find more foot to shoot.

    5. Oh hey, Sony is doing the thing Xbox One tried to do in 2013. I’m sure this will go over well with PlayStation owners.

They call valve a monopoly cause they are the only company not actively shooting itself in the foot.

And THIS right here is one of the many reasons I got a steam deck instead of a current gen console this time around.

Consoles are just not what they used to be and they are so expensive now. Valve is one of the last non scummy companies because it’s not publicly traded.

    8. If only there was a way for PlayStation to make an official statement regarding this issue instead of allowing this misinfo to still spread like this.

I probably won’t talk about the Xbox app on PC… 14 days without online, that’s all, by the way.

I really don’t get the fucking panic over this. Vast majority of players have their consoles online all the time anyways. You don’t LOSE the game, you just need to connect after 30 days to renew the license. Hell, you could probably do that with a mobile phone data tether ffs.

Why is everyone losing their collective shit over something so fucking trivial? If you buy a digital game, you clearly have access to the fucking internet anyway!!!

This honestly doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I’m on it everyday so whatever. Have it hardwired and my entire library is all digital. This hasn’t and won’t affect me whatsoever.

    12. Glad I never bought it, damn. Plus I prefer physical games for this very reason, its *MINE*

    13. It’s been already tested by some people. It’s most likely to avoid some hacks with digital games and jailbreaked consoles. The DRM check is most likely removed after 30 days. It’s bigger in the news as it is in reality.

Given how much I’ve seen this, I’m surprised Sony hasn’t come out and clarified it. Or at least I haven’t seen it if they have.

    15. well.. mine wants to disconnect from the wifi when it goes to sleep even tho i have remoteplay and stay connected to the internet in sleep mode… when i wake it the first few seconds say no internet then connects.. =/

This topic is thriving in R/piracy lmao. Full off upvote farming on rumors lmao

What’s ironically funny is that the same kind of system is actually implemented on steam I believe it’s through developer disclosure if they have that I believe I’m not entirely sure because I’ve never had this check before on steam but it is a system that is 100% on there.

I know for a fact that I’ve never had to do this because even in our steam family library of over 2,000 plus games some of them haven’t been played in years and I can just go on there and open it like nothing so I don’t know.

Damn, I hope someday they make this fabled ps5 everyone is talking about. Imagine all the games you could play in it.

Idk if i haven’t seen the big problem, but whats the big deal? It seems like you gotta login/get internet connection to keep the games from disappearing. Even after 30 days, no? Please enlighten me, i seem clueless while everyone’s mad.
