Battling Bastards of Bataan
26th Cavalry Regiment (Philippine Scouts) during the defense of the Philippines in the early 1942. This elite unit is famous for having the last horse-mounted cavalry charge in US Army history at Morong Bataan on January 16, 1942 but due to Total Blockade of the Philippine Archipelago, The Men who viewed their Companions as Partners were forced to eat them in the Face of Starvation
*We’re the battling bastards of Bataan;
No mama, no papa, no Uncle Sam,
No aunts, no uncles, no nephews, no nieces,
No rifles, no planes, or artillery pieces,
And nobody gives a damn.*

I can’t even imagine being in that situation. Like it’s bad enough to have to eat horses, but to eat a horse that’s been a loyal steadfast partner would be devastating. I don’t think I’d ever recover. Id almost rather eat the dead enemy.
