Every customer facing position has that as requirement, usually implicitly.

I conjecture, this statement was not originally written in English. It was either written in Chinese or Vietnamese, then translated to English. The grammar is odd and the phrases sound strange. I’ll bet they used some ai bot to translate and make a sign, the phrase and hyphen in “good-looking” is the give away.

I wonder if good looking just means sharp appearance. Just trying to think outside the box since it’s an Asian grocery store.

Imagine speaking Vietnamese, Chinese, and English and not getting the job lmao

As someone who did a recent gig job at a Asian grocery, I think my funniest moment was giving a Vietnamese coworker a long spiel about a customer request in Mandarin and being informed a second later that he didn’t understand a word of what I said, at which point I switched to English.
That being said, I look like a potato and therefore would be unable to fufil this role.

The non-english text says “presentable appearance” so I think the English translation is just using the wrong words.

Dammit! I was so close.

Good looking and you are already ahead of most of the competition

Western companies also hire for looks whether they say it or not.

I’ve worked (clothing) retail and as a hostess, and its like this either whether explicitly or implicitly. In fairness, they were totally open to anyone interacting directly with customers if you were charismatic enough. You’d be surprised how much simply having a sunny attitude and being easy to talk to improves your attractiveness.

dunno about the chinese text but the vietnamese seems not translated so would wager this is a vietnamese shop

Four criteria and zero chances that it pays above $13 an hour lmao

You have to be trilingual and good looking, just to be paid something like $10 an hour.

The Vietnamese at the bottom says something more like “must be presentable”. Just like with the “Boys or Girls staff”, this is just a translation issue.

Why is it in 3 languages if you need to speak all those languages for the job?

I think this is just a bad translation. They likely meant “presentable”

If I’m a good looking person who can speak three different languages I’m probably not going to be seeking employment in a grocery store
