The (first) industrial revolution and it’s consequences were a disaster for common folk

It all began in the 16th century when Britain developed manufacture (which actually meant hand labour). At the dawn of British manufacture their main industry was producing cloth made of sheep wool. British cloth was famous all over Europe, and it sold very well, yielding big profits. So more and more sheep were bred in England, and soon there was not enough land for them. Soon, land owners realized that it was much more profitable to repurpose their lands for sheep pastures than to lease it to peasants. So the peasants were ousted from the lands, and sometimes dwellers of entire villages were driven away.
SoThomas More bitterly noticed in his famous “Utopia” “Your sheep whiсh аre usuаlly so tame аnd so cheaply fed, begin now, aссording to reрort, to be so grееdy and wild thаt they devоur human beings thеmselves and devаstate and depоpulate fields, houses, and towns.”
Later, when people started citing him, they transformed the quotation into a simpler phrase — “SHEEP ATE MEN”.

That’s the first layer of the joke. The second layer is that all of other natural predators on British Isles, such as wolves and bears, were hunted into extinction.

    2. Ehhhhh I’d argue a cornered badger is MUCH more dangerous.

      European badgers are no joke

Foxes too if they have nowhere to go. If we’re calling sheep predators then you also don’t want to piss off deer, stags especially. Bison have also returned to the UK countryside and we’re considering expansion, they WILL be dangerous

Special mention to the Pine Marten which is ripping through grey squirrel populations and hopefully will lead to the recovery of the Reds

Innacurate. The most dangerous predator in Britain is the deer with 50k plus vehicles being slaughtered by these merciless killers every year. Closely followed by horses rebelling from the enslavement. Honorable mention to ticks and midges. The poor sheep doesn’t even get a look in
