8 is too low. 9 makes the neighbors angry. I am old and grumpy :-(.
But my solution was to get a sound bar. It’s actually solved a lot of problems. (Bose brand and i don’t recall the model)

Action and horror movies are basically:
1. You can’t hear jack shit what they’re saying.
2. You get chronic tinnitus from the sudden volume boost.

I think this has to do with a lot with streaming codes from services just barely giving you enough bandwidth for good video, but lacks on audio bitdepth causing weak dynamic range and inconsistent levels.
Sorry, I’m just an audio nerd and find this stuff fascinating.
