Do people seriously still believe the Dark Ages applied to all of Medieval History?

People forget that the ‘Dark Ages’ were actually just the ‘Roger Bacon and Robert Grosseteste experiment with optics’ ages.

Medieval science was mostly an institutions issue rather than an intelligence issue.

Dumb ? Certainly not
Superstitious ? I mean let not act like Medieval folks were great rationalist who applied the scientific process to everything lmao , there was so much that was beyond the knowledge of the time that they just chalked up to God and demons and what not

Both of these are dumb because peasants and the vast majority of the population compared to a tiny minority of elites, religious leaders and scholars.Â
And of course not all peasants are the same everywhere, not all religious leaders either.Â
For example medieval (pre protestant) witch hunts.Â
The catholic church issuing statements to stop hunting witches and they’re not real is primary source evidence that peasants and people far away from Rome were superstitious and conducting witch hunts.Â
It’s also primary source evidence that the religious leaders had a problem with this and were not superstitious nor believed in witches.Â
