Now I’ll browse through every murky puddle for treasure!

Thank goodness we have a solution to a made up problem. Next time I drop my key in a shallow muddy puddle, I’ll go home for a Ziploc of clear water to blindly pan around so I don’t have to reach in and grab it.

I feel like this would be useless on a body of water large enough to actually lose something in.

Where tf do you find a plastic shopping bag in 2026?

Ya’ll still have plastic bags where you live?! I think that’s contraband here in NY 🙃

The bag needs to touch the bottom to see the bottom, it’s just displacing the murky water. Instead just don’t toss your keys in a mud puddle.

This is a good reason to always carry a clear plastic bag and three litres of water with you?
Vex_Verde on
The bag isn’t clearing the view but more displacing the muddy water. It doesn’t sharpen or act as a lens but more of a clear barrier rather than a muddy one… I’m not doing well to explain it haha but your words are just as bad 😞😔 guess we both failed

I can only assume that either anyone finding this interesting is a bot, or none of you use baths / wash dishes.

“Works like a lens” lmao.
It just displaces water so you’re looking through the clear water instead of the murky one.
I.e., it works only if the bag actually reaches the bottom, otherwise you have murky water underneath the bag and you still don’t see below.

That would only be useful in small puddles, unfortunately

Why not just put clean water in the hole? There, saved you a step (and a plastic bag)

Interesting but the chances I use this method in my lifetime are very slim

So you are telling me that if you get a clear plastic bag, with clean water, and put it in a small enough puddle where it can displace ALL of the muddy water, you can now see?
Another life hack is to move the muddy water to another place you will be able to see what is at the bottom also
BookWormPedant on
You’d need a really big bag if you lost something in a large puddle or an actual body of water
