    1. Context: this is Yama. Yama (or Yamaraja) is the primary Hindu god of death, the afterlife, and justice, often revered as the “Lord of the Pitrs” (ancestors). Known as the first mortal to die, he guides souls to the afterlife, where he judges them based on their karma. He is a Dharmadikpala, ruling the southern direction, and is often depicted riding a black buffalo with a noose.
