It’s a black-breasted leaf turtle! This one isn’t exactly happy but [they also just look like that](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQlpAW2ydzP-vgSq3vOhXqSRFKqzw0NPHeft0sCSsl76Dfv6x7gOF4SZNel&s=10), those googly eyes are their whole thing! They’re one of the smallest turtles in the world (that’s a full grown adult being held) and they use those massive peepers to scope out all sorts of wiggly yummies on the forest floor; they’re surprisingly good hunters compared to most land-dwelling omnivorous turtles.
Of course as with lots of cool obscure animals these guys are unfortunately critically endangered, but recent strides in captive breeding over the past few years have proven that they’re fairly hardy in captivity with the right care.
