Were there black slave-owners? Yes, but they only were only <1% of the overall population of those who owned slaves. And while opportunistic/exploitative people exist in every demographic, also note that many had bought family to avoid being separated.

I love how this is in response to some nonsense from this morning.
I mean every nation did slavery, it’s just that American slavery catches the most flack
I think it’s more useful to evaluate individual exceptions’ morality. For instance, if you squint at it, slavery in Haiti (as in America) was les Grands Blancs enslaving Africans. However, in the case of the individual Toussaint Louverture, he did own slaves, which means he individually should be treated as a slave-holder even though he belonged to the “enslaved race”
It’s the same logic they use to justify decimating the Native American traditions, same logic they used to colonize South America. They will never own up to what they did.
Nah, slavery breed the racial order to justify it and then maintained itself by insuring the need for a semblance of caste/class support and give poor white a feeling superior inspire of being screwed.
