This is missing alot of electoral fraud, people genuinely voting because there is no other choice but the fascists, and how they often get violet against those who didn’t vote for them.

Didn’t his own party out him because he was doing so bad or something like that?

Except Mussolini was only voted out when the war reached Italy’s borders, and he still ruled most of Italy even after being voted out. In the end, fascist rule ended in Italy due to Allied invasion and partisan resistance, not internal fascist elections.

    4. No idea why liberals were singled out in this meme. Populism is not liberalism and the rise of Italian fascism seems to be due to many different political groups joining together, including nationalists, military, industrialists and more. The only common thread was opposition to Communism and extreme nationalism.

The Fascist Party used violence and intimidation to achieve the threshold in the 1924 election, thus obtaining control of Parliament. Socialist deputy Giacomo Matteotti was assassinated after calling for a nullification of the vote.

The Fascist Party did originally call for progressive and liberal policies but quickly changed to dictatorship. So if your country is falling apart and someone comes along promising law and order and you think your only choice is fascists or the marxist Italian Socialist Party, you are not looking at a good outcome.

So an oversimplified and outright misleading meme. Because no mainstream liberal politician is promoting fascism.

Yeah, turns out dictators don’t really wait for votes, voting usually ends right when it matters most.

    6. “If voting really changed anything it would have been made illegal long ago” -Some French Comedian if i remember.

See i can do quotes too.

Mind you, the new government was still theoretically committed to retaining the fascist system. It’s why King Victor Emmanuel III (who mind you, kept executive authority during this period, could’ve prevented Mussolini from ever becoming Prime Minister and if nothing else, retained the personal loyalty of the armed forces) didn’t appoint the elderly Enrico Caviglia as Prime Minister because horror of horrors, he was distant from the regime and actually had principles.

It’s only when circumstances moved beyond his control that the government gave way.

    8. Childish mischaracterization. It’s just a hell of a lot harder for fascists to rig an election when there’s an overwhelming turnout against them. From the perspective of the average Joe, why not do what little we can to keep the worst of the worst out?

Too much critical thinking for them, I know.

Every excuse to strip the Italian partisan resistance of their merits, these days

If your electoral system is still broadly ok, you can indeed vote to strike down the far-right populist.

See Hungary, or Romania, or Portugal, or…
