So Disney can get this tiny bit of Greek mythology correct… but yet they portray Zeus as a monogamous husband and loving father.

    1. Kaos has to be my favorite modern portrayal of Zeus.

Abusive psychopath with a desperate need for affirmation.

Disney making a movie based off Greek mythology was always going to be a weird choice even if I think Hercules is a fun time. They were never going to portray how many children Zeus has mythologically or get into the fact Hercules kills Megara. Though to be fair, even the way we view Greek mythology today is probably not how the average ancient Greek person viewed the gods either. Ancient Greek religion wasn’t really a unified thing, and the surviving stories we have access to are just a small sliver of the local variations that once existed. The gods were probably viewed as much more benevolent when they actually being worshipped in comparison to now where we’re very different culturally to the ancient Greek city states and are mostly treating these stories as source material for fictional stories or talking about how weird we find them.

    3. Yeah, that wasn’t a mistake, it was a deliberate choice. What were they supposed to do for a kids movie??? Portray him as someone who raped his way across the countryside and either ignored or tormented most of his children…. in a kids movie???? Yeah, it would be true to the mythology, but that was never going to happen.

Have you considered that portraying Zeus as a degenerate rapist and deadbeat dad is not an appropriate image to show to kids in a Disney movie?
