The Americans had to be convinced he was a buffoon that could be beaten and also that he wasn’t a respectable powerful leader worth emulating. This was to counter both isolationsim that suggested avoiding the fight and years of Nazi propaganda in Hollywood as Hollywood allowed Nazi editorial review of their films to allow them to sell in Germany.

The Soviets in contrast had to convince their people that he was an existential threat worth any sacrifice to defeat. This was to counter the period of co-existence and peace and to justify the incredible personal cost the people would have to suffer.

Two different experiences, two different needs.

    3. Well duh! The Soviets faced a very real threat from Hitler. He invaded them. Fear was the right way to mobilize their people.

On the other hand, the US government had to make Hitler look like a buffoon so people would think he would be a push over and that would make them less likely to oppose sending American boys to fight him.

Soviets needed to get their people to fight harder. The US needed to get their people to just go fight.

I mean, to be fair, being right next to your enemy means you see what your enemy does firsthand.

Seeing what the Nazis did will make you think like the bottom image.

Both are true. He did horrible things but when the opportunity to assassinate him came up the Allies chose not to because his stupidity weakened Germany. Taking Hitler out may have added months to the war and many more lives would have been lost before an Allied victory.
