A glitch in the matrix

    1. Technically, he is a prisoner there too, not the warden. Popular media just ruined the actual lore.

Depends on the tradition, often satan isn’t one running hell, he’s being punished too, so it’s more about consequences than him enforcing anything.

    3. The idea of Satan running hell is just some random fanfic somebody made and has no reality in 99% of theologies

I think the idea of torture is just a metaphor for living eternal life absent from god

He wants the others to go through the same torment he’s suffering, but he’s the top sadist in the room

If you go even deeper there’s no modern conception of devil/satan or hell in the old testament

    7. When this was posted yesterday the people there explained that satan doesn’t do the torturing, he’s getting tortured and wants company.

    8. Satan is not the ruler of Hell. He was simply the first to be punished into Hell. He rules over nothing and is punished all the same for those of us who are condemned there as well.

This thread reads a lot like LOTR fans answering lore questions about Middle Earth, except a bit dumber and without the implicit understanding that the stories are all made up anyway.

satan isn’t the one torturing unbelievers. In fact, he will praise them because they managed to do something not even he could do: not believing in God

    11. In the OG lore, Satan is tortured alongside humans, if not more. But the story and general belief shifted to give believers something to be scared of, and to gaslight them into belief that Yahweh would actually never do that and is all loving.

In reality the serpent gets a fate worse than eternal separation from God. He’s the only one who’ll be tortured. Everyone else just ends up in an endless cold nothingness.

    13. Satan doesn’t put people in hell. Satan himself is in hell. God puts people in heaven or hell

    14. Because it’s all a poorly written and translated fairy tale to control people and indoctrinate them with a fantasy to make them behave and easily controllable. I find it very difficult to trust anyone who believes the bible.

Christianity is not a simulation of real life, so I’m not sure how it would have a “glitch in the matrix”

Bible lore is awesome when it isn’t infected by American Christianity or Hollywood

Dante wrote a Bible fanfic imagining his political rivals suffering in hell with the pagan legends.

That is a classic example of a provocative question, demons and souls are in hell for different reasons, demons don’t torture because they did something wrong in the past, but because now damn souls in their full custody and not protected by God.

    19. It kind of rests on the idea that Satan runs hell and punishes people for God, which isn’t really the standard view. In most Christian theology, he’s just another condemned rebel, not the one in charge.

The whole “Satan tortures people for disobeying God” idea is mostly from pop culture, not actual doctrine—so the question is starting from a premise that doesn’t quite line up.

    20. So many believers contradicting eachother with such confident answers lmao. Never gets old. I mean it is old and exhausting, but I’ve learned to just laugh at it. Not like I can do anything about the damage it’s doing.

    21. he is being tortured there as well, satan is not a warden or a ruler, he’s a prisoner, now what do prisoners do to other prisoners they dont like? cause satan absolutely hates humanity
