and how your favorite player is on his 8th team just cuz he chased a ring and is no longer ‘the’ guy

hard to create fan loyalty when you swap cities every (other) year

    2. I know many people working at Nike hq, no body is saying this is the reason why sales are down lolol what nonsense

    3. So_HauserAspen on

The people that end up getting hired to run companies are people who would never be able to startup a successful company because they don’t understand life

    4. doctorchops1217 on

no you’re supposed to be MORE popular so people will forego rent and meals to wear a fucking shoe, it’s really on the athletes they’re just not trying enough to make your shoe company money 🙄

    5. Footlocker isn’t the only place to get good shoes anymore, plus there’s lots of online competition for Nike, Adidas etc, so fewer people can, or will, but their overpriced merchandise.

    6. Poor capitalist overlords. They bled the stones dry and now no one can afford to buy random bullshit anymore.

I’d love to buy some jerseys for my favorite players but I just searched and basically every NFL jersey is $150 bucks. Shit how I’m supposed to justify paying that much for some jersey?

    7. I am not even the biggest sneaker head but I try to buy something every year or so. Nike had ruined the basketball sneaker, Nike had ruined the casual sneaker market period. The last pair of shoes I was interested in was the v5 rnr jackie robinson, 100 dollars. On everything I love this would/should be a 75 dollar maximum shoe. And don’t get me started on StockX or Goat, bitch why does every shoe instantly go on resell over market price? The base line for sneakers during a global recession can’t be $100+ especially when you actively have deteriorated the quality of all major shoes(Zomero, Jordan 1, Air Force 1, etc).

Forgetting Nike nonsense for a sec, I do think nba players star/q ratings are really low these days. They really aren’t that popular anymore

Its a combo of “the shit cost too much” and modern basketball shoes just don’t make for good casual wear. Not to say some don’t look cool, but they aren’t things anyone would wear for the fashion. It’s just J’s that’re both and that’s it.

Doesn’t help that the build quality is dogshit now. They used to be nice shoes and lasted a while, now you’re lucky if a regularly worn pair of Nikes lasts a full year.

    11. Bruh I started buying pumas cause they were like $50. I bought some traes cause they were $25. The only shoes I bought over 100 were some timbs and some af1s. Still wanna rebuild my Jordan collection but I think I’m okay with some 11s and get my off whites from China Lol

    12. I’ve caught some games in the fourth quarter when turning on my TV, and when the hell did triple-digit games become so common? Do people just not play defense anymore, or what?

Also the people in charge of Nike these days aren’t former athletes on any level anymore it’s just marketing grads n data scientists (ima a data scientist myself lol) who can rely too much on numbers and not enough on human feel n story telling.

When you cut SNAP, Medicare, and refuse to raise the minimum wage this is the only result. People are spending what would have been expendable income on basics now. Hard to spend extra $ on shoes when you’re hungry, sick, and broke.

Marketing sucks now too. Jordans being a cultural phenomenon had as much to do with the Spike Lee commercials and Space Jam as it had with Jordan being a great player.

We could all bankrupt any company we wanted in under a year if we wanted to

We have the power to do that.

But instead we just complain about billionaires being bad and doing nothin about it.

The best way to hurt them is taking their money away.

We don’t need to scream about taxing them if there’s nothing to tax.

One of my favorite YouTube channels is Rose Anvil.

Dude makes boots and shoes, high quality heritage -style. He also *ranks* them by literally tearing the shoes apart. Cuts them in half with a bandsaw to see how they’re built inside and out.

Popular shit companies like Nike and Timberland are pumping out worse and worse crap for ever increasing prices. They’ve got shareholders to feed, dontcha know.

    18. Probably also to do with the fact that every damn player has a signature shoe and market is overstated.

My boyfriend and I were talking about this last night… the kids are not into shoes like we were. My son’s 16th bday was yesterday… we went shopping he didn’t like any of the shoes in DTLR or Foot locker. I was sooooo confused. He went on ig and found a seller instead 🤦🏽‍♀️

    20. First of all, Nikes are over priced and at a cheaper price point Chinese brand has equal or better amount of the same tech in them. Nike is being held on by the Jordan Brand and thats coming apart as I can find retros at Ross and Burlington now.

    21. Ok-Leader-1824 on

Brands are all ego anyway. More and more are choosing not to want that shit. Things can be different colors without logos if being vibrant is your expression and not being a billboard.

The game is not the same as the 1980′, 90’s and early 2000’s. The excitement is not there, the players don’t have the same heart and spirit as the old players.

Sports in general is getting too expensive. Watching, participating, being a fan, etc.

    24. Bruschetta_Bout_It on

I love that these companies will cite the failing economy to justify their layoffs or offering lower quality products but will never use it as a reason for their sales dropping. It always has to be someone else’s fault and not theirs for failing to adapt.

    25. I just think celebrity/athlete worshipping is at an all time low. Less people are willing to splurge on a shoe just because their favorite ball player sponsored it.

    26. Charming_Birthday702 on

Nico Harrison folded and called Steph Curry, Seth Curry, and Nike lost an easy billy

    27. Responsible_Flight70 on

I get my Nike shoes from someone other than Nike. I will buy budget and have someone make something custom if I’m gonna pay an arm and leg

    28. TheMagicalMatt on

Right? Not a shoe person, but generally speaking I’d love nothing more than to throw my money at dumb shit and collect all sorts of fun stuff, but not when they come with an inflated value because they’re being sold as a collector’s item straight out the box. Collectable status has to be earned with age, not bought or sold as some sort of wacky gimmick or some predatory monopoly “grading” everything. Besides, we don’t really have the kind of economy where we can afford a lot of collecting.

Also, correct me if I’m wrong, but Nike supported the president leading this economy, did they not?

Cause the NBA has become pussified and the industry wants you to look up to one of the biggest cry babies of all time. Like no thank you
