The problem with em-dashes is inputting them. I wish it were standard to convert two dashes into an em-dash.

Why should I stop using them? I was there before ChatGPT and those other useless clankers – they can stop if they want to. : )

I usually use proper punctuation and correct use of they’re, there their etc…
I also suck at sentence structure and coherent thoughts some times so I guess that means I won’t be accused of being ai

You don’t have to stop using them. You just can’t use them every other paragraph.

I recall reading “The Right Stuff” by Tom Wolfe — it had about 2 to 5 on every page… Along with a few ellipses.
I had to go into the number pad of the keyboard and long press to get that dash.

Is that what a “em dash” is?
I just try to make post easy to read for the person reading it.
I think I know how certain sentences work, but maybe I am mistaken? I think I use “,but” wrong quite a bit, I dont know, Im fond of run on sentences and commas…

Here’s the thing:
You don’t have to worry about em dashes.
You have to worry about whatever the hell this style is.
Choppy.
Confusing.
Weirdly short sentences that go nowhere.
It’s not the em dashes you have to look out for. It’s the confusing analogies and sticky adjectives. It’s the repetition.
That’s what tells you it’s AI.
That’s how you know.

All of my job applications get read as 100% AI when I check online because I use formal writing and adverbs. In order to lower the score I have to switch to reddit/texting grammar

I will always use a semi-colon; I’m a trained journalist goddammit! Luckily, even though I use em-dashes all the time, I always just use a simple minus-sign instead of a proper one.
