Most Southern generals couldn’t really see the bigger picture of warfare. It didn’t really matter how much any Southern general won, their flashy victories might’ve filled the romantic perception of war, they were also needlessly expensive in a war where they were at a severe disadvantage from the start

Longstreet didn’t sabotage Picket’s charge, he tried to talk Lee out of it because he knew it was an insanely dumb idea.

      George Meade slander (No Relation.)

Meade was a solid and reliable commander that lacked the aggressive flair of Grant. Calling him mediocre is a disservice.

    4. That’s “Checkmate Lincolnites!” Johnny Reb’s phrasebook chapter 45 you just uncovered!

    5. Winning against George McLellan feels less like an achievement and more a military captcha test.

      “No wars won.”

I can’t believe I’m gonna defend Lee but he fought in the Mexican-American War which was a resounding victory for the United States.

He died when his baby dick retracted into his body, so he couldn’t pee anymore. His bladder filled up like a water balloon and exploded, leaving a pissy baby dicked corpse.

Tbf to the guy, he was extremely outnumbered and outgunned. It’s very difficult to wage a war perfectly when the odds are so incredibly stacked against you, and I’m not going to judge someone for losing it. Especially considering he did win many battles and got close to victory

    11. Tbf, the offensive war was one of two bad choices.

Its either fight a war of attrition you cant win, or try to overwhelm the enemy with an offensive.
What i want to say is, he did the right choice, the confederecy just had 0 chances of winning

    12. I give the sideeye to anyone who fantasizes about the South winning the Civil War. We both know they weren’t fighting for “state’s rights.”

It’s ironic that big 10 fans are the exact people that they claimed SEC fans were being for years. Crazy that they were projecting the entire time.Β

Needless to say so both sides of the civil war had mediocre generals across the board. The hot take to caveat that is I don’t think the U.S. has ever produced a historically great commander in its history.
