    1. It is estimated that over 60% of Mumbai’s entire population lives in informal settlements like the one on the left.

    2. OP doesn’t know how the words “difference between” are used

Edit: thank you for my first award, kind redditor

The left is what my worlds look like at the beginning of starting a sim builder game and the right is when I learn the ropes.

    4. This is a preview of what every city in America will look like in 20 years as the wealth gap continues to widen.

I’ve heard a story that the govt provided apartments to all the slum dwellers so that they would vacate the slum and that land could be redeveloped.

The slum dwellers just rented those apartment and settled back in their slum because it was prime real estate

    6. We see this image in many parts of the world. Class difference is a concept that is as concrete as it gets.

Afaik extensive clearing of slums are happening but given the sheer size of the population I reckon it’ll take a good while

    8. This image is part of The Unequal Scenes project by photographer Johnny Miller that used drone photography to visually document social and economic disparities across the globe.

    9. It looks like the apartment buildings on the right are less dense than they comfortably could be, and they were probably built to relieve housing pressure for the people on the left hand side.

I wouldn’t like the chances of my Zomato order showing up quickly anywhere on the left, that’s for sure.

How does this happen? Is the land publicly owned? someone owns it but doesn’t care? Someone owns it and charges rent?

      > The area surrounding the Bandra Kurla complex is a mixture of extreme wealth and extreme poverty, including the consulate generals of several countries, corporate headquarters, and the National Stock Exchange.

Funny how diseases do not discriminate based on Socioeconomic status.

If the poor are not taken care of, it’s going to happen.

    15. Pay the pour to clean up the mess. Everyone Wins. Then build better housing and infrastructure, turning the slums into habitable townships with schools and health services. Everyone wins again.

I was there just last fall. Whoever is selling blue tarps is making big bucks.

    17. whats interesting as fuck in this?
this exact thing of slums on one side and high rise buildings on the other is seen in quite a few countries.

The only interesting thing here is how there’sa neat straight line separation between the haves and have nots, in hundred of big cities around the world there are rich and poor areas and the gap is usually pretty stark.

What I find striking is that the slums get the waterfront real estate. A complete reversal of the way it works in most other places.
