      What is the source of this image?

      Why does it say “Slaves & Free Blacks” under “Enslaved Africans” at the bottom? Is it meant to include freed Black people, or actually just the enslaved one’s (as the other images of text suggest)?

      The first image sets off AI alarm bells for me, though I could be wrong. My understanding is that the casta system was more complicated than this.

      I remember reading about this in some magical realism book. I don’t recall which one in specific, however.
