Lucius Aurelius Verus was roman emperor from 161 to 169, alongside his adoptive brother Marcus Aurelius. The majority of his reign was spent commanding a military campaign against Parthia, which ended in Roman victory. After initial involvement in the Marcomannic Wars, he fell ill and died in 169.

This bust was discovered in 1928 during routine farm work carried out at the Pederbona farmstead in Spinetta Marengo; it was part of a collection of 31 artifacts, later named the Marengo treasure.
