    1. Prison should be tough. It should be a place you don’t want to go. But we’re still a nation of laws (I think, maybe). And if the will of the people says slavery can’t exist, not even in prisons, then that’s what should happen.

    2. The SCOTUS can’t wait to get their grubby fascist hands on this one, I bet. It sets a good precedent for them coercing ICE detainees for their labor, as well.

    3. Nationally, the amendment ending slavery has an “*except in the case of prisoners”* stuck on the end of it. US can legally enslave prisoners. It’s why we got loitering laws; to round up former slaves for the crime of existing in public, and re-enslave them.

      It’s an absolute travesty.

      I’m glad at least a few states are working to fix that. But the rest of us should be ashamed.

    4. I don’t know about this – shouldn’t they still have to work for their room and board? So you just commit a crime and get free room, board and medical?
