Pretending to be slow to catch on is one of the oldest cons in the book. Look who he has on his show. Handpicked political operatives who are “just having a conversation” with an “objective layman”. They’re asked for their take and they rattle off their usual talking points.
Fortunately the people who mistook him as objective are starting to shake out of their stupor and realize that these deep cuts they were supposedly getting are the exact script they thought they were avoiding by listening to Joe and company. He’s gotten about as much mileage out of his “passive listener” routine as he’s going to get.
