Maybe more people will see why letting a few billionaires own all media is not a good thing.

It would just be more honest to buy WAPO and then shutter it. The muzzling of journalists and then mass firings aren’t about austerity or fiscal responsibility.

Heard this story on NPR yesterday and it really chilled me. Democratic norms are being torn down in this country left and right. The pace is dizzying.
A free press is one of the cornerstones of our nation. First Benzos leans on WaPo and prevents them from publishing an editorial for Harris/Walz. Now this.
Trump is dismantling the US government from within. And the conservative oligarchs who have bought up the majority of the main stream media outlets are controlling the flow of information. WaPo is an institution; and it is being dismantled before our eyes.
I feel like the noose is being drawn tighter; and the pace of the headlong slide towards fascism is increasing. These are truly scary times.

For context…
The Washington Post just laid off about 1/3 of their staff… This comes as their senior management has been begging for Bezos to provide some liquidity as sub numbers have plummeted largely due to Bezos’ decision not to have WAPO endorse anyone this year and directive to make the editorials convey a more “business friendly and conservative slant,” rather than the more progressive views they have been known for…
So basically he caused the partial collapse of the paper in an effort to be subservient to Trump (this was even before his Melania bribe..) then laid off a few hundred journalists to fix the unforced error he caused…
The end-result being, we now have one less outlet for real journalism in the US..

WAPO has been dead for years.
It’s weird how people pretend they didn’t know this.

Died in daylight. He bought it. He can do with it as he pleases. Don’t be so shocked. Be shocked a bunch of loser accepted the money when the writing was on the wall. They all agreed to get cucked for cash.

Fat cats don’t want or need democracy anyway. In their minds, democracy is just another hurdle to get over.

I just went through a dozen interviews for an Amazon job and I ultimately did not get it.
I learned a lot in those interviews and I think I agree with their assessment.
Apply to any senior job there that you might be slightly overqualified for—and go thru the hiring process.
You’ll see.

That’s the point. The ultra-wealthy have always despised democracy. Read the writings of the industrial magnates and robber barons of the last gilded age. They despised democracy. Somehow we are all just waking up to this fact now
