He was not a good person

    1. Still a legendary author. Nobody else will match his children’s book. Don’t care if he’s a ‘bad person’

    2. Can’t say I recall any homophonic or racist messaging in his books, hell Horton hears a who is about how everyone deserves human rights.

Not saying it’s not there, but you’re gonna need to enlighten me on that one.

    3. During his time the use of stereotypes wasn’t uncommon. Much of his work challenged racism, but with imagery that doesn’t sit well with modern sensibilities.

    4. His early work was racist, but it seems like he genuinely learned and tried to atone for his racism within his kids books. Apparently Horton Hears a Who was a direct apology to his earlier racism towards the Japanese, being dedicated to his Japanese friend and preeching “a person is a person”. Plus he wrote The Sneetches, which was very clearly obviously about how stupid and arbitary racism is (apperently specifically regarding antisemitism, which he was strongly opposed).

Not going to try to absolve him of cheating, though I personally don’t like blaming anybody for someone else’s suicide. I think it’s fair to say that humans are occasionally complicated, not all good or all bad.

Also can’t really find anything one way or the other online about his homophobia.
