    1. I grew up in Chicago. Back in the 60s and 70s this was every winter! But those swells though . . . 😨

    2. Used to be able to drive on lake Erie. Actual cars. On the lake. To the islands. I can’t remember the last time it was possible.

      Nippy then?

Oddly the UK is getting the opposite. Currently around 12º during the day, almost spring temperatures

    4. I was about to call bullshit because I remember doing the polar plunge with my brother and they had to cut out a big portion of ice for people to jump in and there was snow piled up 3-4feet high on the solid ice… then I went and looked at the pictures and it was 11 years ago and now I feel old

    5. I lived in Chicago for 9 years but not recently. I find it hard to believe Lake Michigan had no ice for 11 years

    6. Plot twist. They just meant the last time that it happened that they were in Chicago was 11 yrs ago.

    7. This is an old school winter if I’ve ever seen one, and it still pales in comparison to the storms we’d get 15-20 years ago.

Snow used to pile up 6 feet high next to buildings. Ice storms would lock folk inside for days. Christmas used to be white every year.

    8. Broke ice in the Mackinaw Straights in 1973-74. Great Lakes were open to shipping from Duluth MN to Gary IN 365 Days in 1974.

I just wanted to clarify something. I meant that it hasn’t been this bad since 11 years ago, in the winter of 2013/2014. It did happen in more recent years, but it wasn’t this severe.

    10. From Florida… what is the issue y’all are commenting on? The big waves or weird ice shape things, or what?
