General Winter isn’t a defense, it’s a highway

    1. Context:
      While Napoleon and Hitler are famous for being defeated by General Winter, the Mongols actually used the Russian winter as a strategic weapon.
      In 1237, Batu Khan and Subutai specifically waited for the coldest months to invade the Rus principalities.

      The Strategy: The dense forests and swamps of Russia were impassable for cavalry in the summer/mud seasons Rasputitsa. But in winter, the frozen rivers like the Volga turned into massive ice highways.

      The Result: The Mongols could ride their horses rapidly along the ice to bypass defenses and surprise cities that thought they were safe until spring.

      So while everyone else froze to death, the Golden Horde was just taking the express lane.

    2. Not to mention the Mongols, unlike French and Germans, were used to same winter conditions as the Russians.

    3. Don’t forget Charles XII now….anyway Clearly, The Russians OP defensive buff only applies when the invaders come from the West.
