I’m a Democrat, but the people criticizing Trump for saying China will pay the tariffs are using a straw man argument. Pricing is calculated based on maximizing profit. If a product suddenly costs more to purchase (due to a tax for example), sellers have the option of keeping the price the way it is and losing volume, or lowering the cost to recover some lost volume. For example when the tariffs came, Nintendo lowered the price of the Switch 2 so that the price the customer pays is less than the original price plus the tariffs. When people say another country will pay the tariff, they mean this, because effectively the other country is indirectly paying the tariff by lowering the cost of their products.
Oh no, poor costco is gonna lose a maga costumer……… heck even if they lose all of them, I doubt they get in the same issue of looses as disney or target. Not even close.
