Holy shit. I recognise that building.

    3. At least 13 people died and an unknown number were trapped on Wednesday after a massive fire engulfed multiple high-rise towers of a residential complex in Hong Kong’s northern Tai Po district, the government said.
Firefighters battled the blaze into the night, with thick black smoke billowing from the 31-storey towers and orange flames lighting up the night sky.
The Wang Fuk Court housing complex, where the fire started, is home to 2,000 residential apartments, comprising eight blocks. The Fire Services Department told Reuters it does not yet have a figure for the number of people who may still be inside the buildings.

So no sprinkler systems were installed inside the condo units? Aren’t those sprinklers required by law in HK?

    5. Tell me someone else also thinks the first few seconds of this video look like the gates of hell opening.

    6. The fire spread from one building to another? Does fire suppression building code not exist in China?

    7. This actually pisses me off. My niece bought a three family home. My sister lived on the first and my nephew lived on the third.

So the entire family was left homeless when it burned down. Assholes were filming and laughing about how great this was and they couldn’t wait to post it.

The cops broke them up when my niece lost her shit and flung a phone. They were losing everything. Pets they couldn’t find were dying. And strangers were laughing as they cried in the street in their pajamas.

Unless these were empty office buildings this is pretty sick to post as entertainment. I know I’m biased here but this sucks.

Is this one of the Hong Kong skyscrapers that has cages in it for people to live in? Looks like dog cages?

    9. Ok ok. More context for the blaze.

Built in 1983, The tower blocks were undergoing renovations, and the outside of the buildings was covered in bamboo scaffolding.

      Hypotheticals:
      – So the building was old, likely not up to modern fire codes.
      – Was under renovation, so might have had flammables and things that could trigger a spark.
      – had bamboo scaffolding around it. Natural bamboo isn’t highly flammable, but when dried out, perhaps lined with wooden boards, the scaffold could have been very combustible.
