I work with a guy who votes Republican because he literally only wants the government to cover the military. Literally nothing else. And from his point of view, Republicans are closer to that ideal. Now. That’s actually a good reason to vote Republican over Democrat. Assuming your view is his. IE Batshit insane.

Take gun control as an example. There’s a lot of “I want to make x or y safe so I have a gun.” All the evidence is against that, you’re more likely to get shot, etc, etc. The only accurate, honest answers are the ones like “I love shooting or having guns more than I care about people getting killed.”
Most honest republican economic points only make sense to vote for if you have a lot of money or are spiteful enough to want to hurt others enough to also hurt yourself.
Immigrants? Safety? Jobs security? No. “I’ve been raised to believe brown people are scary.” Or “I want my skin tone to continue to give me preferential treatment.”
Health care is honestly fucking bonkers. It seems like the opinion seems to be “I don’t want to pay for someone else’s healthcare.” The thing I don’t get is that you already do with your existing coverage, it’s just a smaller, less efficient pool and it’s tied to your job. God forbid we have another Covid-esque pandemic and people lose their jobs but still need to not die. Unless you have money from insurance corporations, wanting our existing healthcare system doesn’t make any fucking sense. It costs so much because we pay for insurance to be the middleman and pocket a portion while making decisions about what you can have and can’t have despite not having a medical degree to qualify them to make that call. It is their job to deny as many claims as they can to increase profitability. It’s a horrible system compared to most of the rest of the world. Health care should be a human right, not a money making scheme.
War on drugs is honestly misinformation and racism. We’ve shown again and again that making drugs illegal props up illegal sales, doesn’t prevent their sale to anyone who wants it, and is hugely profitable for both legal businesses and tax for the government. There’s honest opinion is “we want a justification for locking up people of color.”
There’s a million more but the problem is that the honest opinion is almost always ugly on the right.
