I did an exchange semester in Iceland and was invited to a party of one of the locals. I already felt bad for being 20 mins late but they were not even ready yet and I learnt that guests are expected to be at least 1h late

Oh man. A couple of years ago we were having a party for my daughter’s birthday. We invited kids from school obviously and it was at an age where parents are expected to stay. We are also always busy to the last minute because… we just are. Dude and his daughter show up more than an hour early! It was an honest mistake of getting the time wrong, but damn it was awkward bc we barely knew him and we were still trying to make the place look presentable, not the squalor we live in day to day. It turned out to be fine, but still… luckily he was a chill dude and my wife and I thought they could become friends, but i don’t want that to ever happen again.
