In Egypt grain was life. Rodents eat grain and spread diseases which is opposite of life. Cats come around and kill rodents. You can’t blame them for worshipping cats. Rodents spreading disease kill far more people than any fearsome African predator ever could.

    2. I think I read somewhere that cats were so revered due to the following process:

      -Disease kills people

      -vermin carry disease

      -cats eat vermin

-when there is a cat around, there is less vermin, ergo, less disease, ergo less people dying which eventually just mythologically evolved into:
“cats = human safety. Cats = deities”

    3. To those wondering why, cats were belived to be sacred animals to the Egyption god Bestet, Bestet could also posses cats as it was also believed as cats also serves as vesels that Bestet could posses. Also because cats ate vermin that harmed crops & kept rodents away

Fun fact: the Egyptian word for cat is ‘mau’. They let these god creatures name themselves.

There’s an orange cat who comes by my house once a month or so.

I give him a bowl of kibble, because I low key feel like he’s a monk begging for alms.

    6. In Assassin’s Creed Origins, if you kill a cat, you’ll get desynchronization. It is that sacred to them…
