Harry Powers, the “Butcher of Clarksburg”, stands in jail after confessing to murdering five people, including a mother and her three children, ages 10 to 14, whom he strangled and beat to death. The police explained the bruises by claiming that Harry had “fallen up” some stairs, 1931 [937 x 961].

[Letters to Death: The true story behind West Virginia’s first serial killer](https://wchstv.com/news/local/letters-to-death-the-true-story-behind-west-virginias-first-serial-killer) (long and great article)
The police definitely beat Harry into confessing. Actually guilty and fully deserved, but would very strongly discourage. With that said, the police used tear gas and fire hoses to stop the lynch mob, numbering nearly 5,000, outside the jail from killing him immediately.
Trying to murder stairs too?
He walked into a door noob
You know, I keep thinking I can recognize a serial killer when I see one. Nope. Can’t do it. No pattern.
I hate it when gravity doesn’t work.
Today we would waste millions of dollars investigating the guards
