    1. I can hear CGP gray having a party.

Also can we melt them down yet? 1cent 1980 and lower pennies become something like 1.5 cents.

    2. Didn’t understand at first because coins been obsolete here for a long long time, even small bills are gone, and I’m not even from the countries with most insane inflation, although still ridiculous

When the half cent was discontinued in 1857, it had more purchasing power than the dime does today. Just ditch it.

    5. I actually work for a Point of Sale company as software support. Can confirm pennies going away has caused a LOT of calls. Most opt to round up or down to the nearest $0.05. Sometimes the store loses a few pennies on a transaction, sometimes they gain a few.

    6. it literally cost more to make than its worth. It should have gotten the $2 bill treatment a long time ago

    7. Now I have a weird question. If every business and private person etc. decided to continue using pennies, what would happen? Like would the US be forced to reintroduce it eventually or would it just be like handing someone a five dollar bill and a gun wrapper and society just agreed that a gum wrapper is worth 1 cent eventhough the government doesn‘t agree.

The cost to mint a penny has been greater than its dollar value since about 2006. This was overdue

    9. Australia got rid of the 1c and 2c coins in the 80’s, why is America so behind?

      They’ve been worthless for years.

NZ got rid of the 5c coin 10 years ago, people Australia want the 5c coin gone because it costs more to make than its face value.
