What a perfect example of how disconnected Trump is from the realities of normal Americans. The notion that taking the value of an ACA plan and giving it to the policy holder in cash to go buy a new insurance policy on their own is just asinine. The ACA funds wouldn’t begin to cover the cost for an individual buying directly from an insurance company.

They have lost their minds complaining about the ACA long before it became law while never having another plan. Obviously the solution is Medicare for all but they won’t admit it. They try to blame the insurance companies at the same time they embed insurance profits into all health care options. I hope we can get turned in the right direction once we run all these Magats out of office.

Obamacare requires coverage for pre-existing conditions, before say you got cancer well when renewal time came around, you would get dropped and die broke.
You can buy coverage directly from insurance companies but no one does this because of the pre-existing conditions aren’t covered and the savings isn’t worth the risk.

Hilarious. It was the Republicans who demanded that the money go to insurance companies in the first place. Just had to keep their business buddies happy instead of having the full government funded healthcare that was originally voted for. Does he not realize that without healthcare insurance, provided by insurance companies, the cost of a visit to the ER or doctors office can quickly and easily eclipse $5000. If you need ANY kind of scan done, there is thousands of dollars. I had to wait 8 hours once and got dehydrated in the process and instead of just bringing some water the nurse brought a fluid IV. That IV ended up costing me $650 according to the bill I got. ( 5000 for a diagnosis of a stomach ache due to excessive bowel ).
The main issue with healthcare is the absolute criminal markup on basically everything related to health. That fluid IV should of been $30 not $650. My aunt is a head OR nurse and even she says the markups are insane. That iv was $4 for them sent back to me for $650.

If you give people money to purchase their own healthcare insurance, you will find that the cost of it will increase at least as much as the amount you are giving them.
Heath insurance companies will charge as much as they feel they can get away with, and blame the American people for being so unhealthy and the greedy healthcare providers (doctors, nurses, pharmacists, etc) for charging so much.

I have a marketplace plan. Me and one of my kids have chronic illnesses. I spent $17,000 on premiums, deductibles, medication and care this year. The majority of that is debt, which I have to pick and choose what to pay to stay in good standing so my docs will still see me. I called my insurance broker about renewal but she, nor the marketplace, know what the costs will be because of this shitshow. If the affordable care act is repealed, what I already pay will go up astronomically. I will probably die. Like I will DIE. I hate it here.

Insurance companies have regulations that X% of revenue needs to be paid out to patients and so they have very thin margins overall. Yet our healthcare system is not the best in the world. I’m guessing there is a ton of fraud and kickbacks. I had a blood test and it was $1300 but there was an insurance company negotiated discount of $1100. The insurance company paid $150 and I had a $50 co-pay. Really seems like that $1100 discount is there to enable some sort of fraud or shenanigans. Does the full $1300 go against the services they are paying out?
Medical insurance doesn’t seem like something where competition/capitalism helps make it better.

ACA insurance premiums went way up for 2026. Like 25%. I don’t know the institutional and outs. But, just as an idea I see two flaws. Either people would use it to buy the same coverage again, in which case I don’t know why it would be cheaper, or, they would buy less coverage or no coverage, which will work out for the lucky, but for those who end up needing it, what will happen. Will people be dying of expensive but treatable conditions, or will they then expect hospitals to just take care of them?
