    1. No, a sternly worded letter, marching in a plaza with a witty sign or attaching a message to a bridge isn’t resisting.

It’s weak as shit milquetoast compliance.

“Make America (1930’s) Germany Again! Fascism? What is that? We can’t read history books!”, “Patriotic American”, “Christian”, Republican cultists.

    3. Everyone is broke and stressed out (highly likely by design) so there’s no extra time nor energy left. After the marches for various rights in the 60s, the conservatives realized this was due to everyone having too much time and money, so they’ve been as usual, playing the long game, in making sure it never happens again. So here we are.

What gives you the impression Americans are even *against* fascism? You and I might be against it, but why would you presume it’s unpopular?

I know it seems like complacency, but it’s not the case.

During the first Trump presidency, I was in Portland and it was almost constant resistance.

The presidency started with [a rightwing militia conquering part of the state](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occupation_of_the_Malheur_National_Wildlife_Refuge)by force of arms. And it didn’t stop there, rightwing militias poured into Portland, exactly because Portland had a reputation of resistance. [And this is what Nazis do.](https://research.calvin.edu/german-propaganda-archive/berlin.htm)

When someone resisted the militias, [Trump sent marshals and boasted about murdering him without trial.](https://www.cnn.com/2020/10/15/politics/trump-fugitive-shooting/index.html)

Still, we resisted. My work, my union, my friends, my family, my local newspapers, every facet of my life was based on resisting. We kicked out the FBI and stopped aiding the Feds.

They [came in armed](https://www.vice.com/en/article/proud-boys-rally-gunfire-violence-antifa/). The [police did nothing](https://www.huffpost.com/entry/portland-police-far-right-proud-boys_n_5f4417f6c5b6c00d03b29826). Then [the police joined them](https://www.rawstory.com/proud-boys-in-portland/). They [assaulted](https://www.oregonlive.com/crime/2019/08/6-indicted-on-charges-related-to-may-day-brawl-at-portland-bar.html)us. They [killed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_Portland_train_attack) us.

After George Floyd, it accelerated. [50 Days](https://www.opb.org/news/article/police-violence-portland-protest-federal-officers/). Part of the problem was that nobody was paying attention. Nobody could be bothered to do anything while we were out there getting killed while resisting. Just because you weren’t paying attention doesn’t mean that it wasn’t happening. And I’m honestly really sorry that it’s on the world’s doorstep now. But, in a sense, you’re joining the resistance eight years after it was started.

    6. We are.

We are speaking freely, we are daring the administration to do something about it, and we are doing it in the face of threats to our comfortable lives.

The First Amendment is the central tenet of our culture, and more valuable than firearms. Talk to people. Disagree. Keep talking. And when you get punched? Get back up, and talk some more shit.

    7. Hey we’ve peacefully protested a few times by waving cute signs with catchy phrases outside on weekends and then going back to our homes and jobs

You mean to tell me that wasn’t effective?

    8. The right is going to lose their minds when Newsom is elected and decides to start cleaning up this mess with all these new political super powers that the right has created.

I guess a good step would be to cancel our subscriptions to Hulu, Disney, ESPN, Paramount etc. but it’s fuckin FOOTBALL Season! Ugh why couldn’t we pick a better time to fight for our civil rights!

I’m kidding… kind of. Americans are comfortable. We do not necessarily want to put up with the trouble of tomorrow.

    10. Im so very grateful that we have warriors like Chuck Schumer to protect our liberty. When we need a strongly worded letter in opposition, he is our guy!

    11. ADutchExpression on

It’s really starting to look like Nazi Germany in the 30s. We are one or two political assassinations away from a civil war too.

    12. Said it before and I’ll say it again: that was the lesson people were supposed to take from “The Man in the High Castle.” Horror at the complacency of the citizenry. Anne Walker vegitating in front of a television game show while people are routinely disappeared around her.

Imagine trying to explain “Is It Cake?” to George Washington right now.

    13. HurricanePickles on

Unfortunately, those of us who resist aren’t in positions of power. For Trump’s 2nd term, his team knew where to place people to broadly enforce his agenda.

But Charlie Kirk was an asshole and the world is better off without him.

    14. Ready to do a Nepal? The ending sounds nice, but starting fires and chasing off or killing the upper class will be rough.
