In one of the rooms of a luxurious Roman villa in Noheda (central Spain) a beautiful composition was found showing mythological scenes from Greek and Roman culture. The mosaic is really impressive as it has over 230 m2. [1400×832]

**The mosaic decorates the floor in a room measuring 14 by 18 meters, which was used as a banquet hall (triclinium).**
**The posted photo shows only part of the full composition. The top scene depicts the triumph of Bacchus, the god of wild nature, grapevine and wine, after his mythological conquest of India. On the mosaic we see, among others satyrs and bacchantes (companions of Bacchus).**
**In the lower scene, the story of Paris or the competition for the title of the most beautiful goddess of Athena, Aphrodite and Hera is presented.**
Interesting that this mosaic was in a house in central Spain, when the ancient name for Spain was Hesperia, and believed to be where the tree of the golden apples grew.
One of Hercules (Herakles) Labour’s was to collect three golden apples. He enlisted the help of Atlas here, changing places with him, and shouldering the weight of the sky while Atlas went to gather the golden apples.
