    1. Well, let’s be honest. It was a bunch of tiles sandwiched between a foundation below and centuries of dirt on top. It’s not like the tiles were exposed to the elements when the earthquake happened.

      All the same, it’s incredibly cool whenever a floor like this is found under an existing city or a vineyard!

    2. This could have been an ancient art project, and perhaps it was intended as a mosaic on the waves. After an earthquake, the mosaic panel would have cracked and broken, rather than being deformed without breaks.
