The Vimose coat is a 22-pound piece of chain armor thrown into a Danish bog as a victory offering after battle some 1,800 years ago. Made by hand from nearly 20,000 tiny iron rings, it is the oldest completely preserved chain mail from Northern Europe [831×1503]

Knowing how difficult it would be to make this and then throwing it away… sheesh
How do they know its a victory offering and not just a mistake?
Wow. That must have taken a tremendous amount of work to make back then. Just drawing that much wire would have been a feat. I’ve drawn wire from ingots of significantly softer and easier to work metals, like silver and bronze, and with the help of modern draw plates, and even doing enough wire for something like this with a soft metal would be a daunting task. Of course, this would have been done in a workshop, with tools and jigs designed for this sort of work, and many skilled workers, not just some guy at a bench with a draw plate intended for silversmithing, but still, the work involved must have been incredible and the value of armor like this accordingly high.
I always thought chain mail was a medieval invention
At least they made a pee hole for it
