Imagine being a member of the Guard from a red state, all excited to be going to DC to help out your daddy, where you have to leave your real job (if you have one), and you aren’t even getting paid for it.

I know they’re all professionals, even if they’re reserve rather than regular forces, but they deserve respect for their service especially given they’re ordered to put their lives on hold and – in this case – being tasked to act against their own people. Pay is a basic one to get right.
Against orders to deploy, individual or as a unit, there’s not much they can do to avoid repercussions other than perhaps find reasons to go slow, experience equipment failures, develop sudden illnesses, bad backs, etc.
