Hey r/GetMotivated,

I've been a long-time lurker here, drawing inspiration from all of your stories. Today, I hope I can give a little bit of that energy back.

I just got a notification from the App Store. Someone subscribed to the Pro version of my app. It might seem like a small thing, but my heart is still pounding. I'm a solo developer from Italy, working on this project during nights and weekends. Seeing that my very first paying customer is from the Netherlands… wow. The fact that something I created in my room is now being used and valued by someone in another country is an incredible, mind-blowing feeling.

This is my first real passive income, and it's all the motivation I need to keep pushing forward.

    My "Why"

For those who are curious, I'm a huge vehicle enthusiast. For years, I was frustrated with the apps available for managing my car. I used apps like Drivvo, but I always found them clunky, poorly designed, or missing key features. I constantly forgot deadlines for insurance or road tax, and I could never easily track my real fuel consumption and costs.

So, I decided to build my own solution. I wanted to create the app I always wished I had. I named it GarTrack.

    What I Built

It’s basically an all-in-one copilot for anyone who owns a vehicle. I designed it to be modern, simple, and powerful. It’s not just for cars, but for motorcycles, trucks, boats, and even electric vehicles.

My goal was to solve the biggest headaches for vehicle owners:

    • Never miss a deadline again: It sends push notifications for crucial deadlines like insurance, taxes, inspections, driver's license, etc.
    • Actually understand your costs: You can track every single refueling or electric charge, and it automatically calculates your real consumption and cost per mile/km.
    • Stay on top of maintenance: Log every service (oil changes, tires, brakes) and set reminders for future maintenance.
    • Stop digging for documents: Keep everything organized in one place.

I poured everything I had into making it clean and intuitive. There's even a map to find EV charging stations for the electric vehicle owners out there.

    My Request to You

The reason I'm sharing this is twofold.

First, if you have a passion project or an idea you've been putting off, please, start working on it. That little voice of self-doubt is loud, but the feeling of creating something and seeing it being appreciated by even one person is worth every single second of hard work. This single sale has given me more drive than anything else.

Second, I want to make GarTrack the best vehicle management app out there. It’s currently available on the iOS App Store for free, and I’m working my butt off to get the Android version ready.

If you’re a vehicle enthusiast like me, I would be incredibly grateful if you’d give it a try and let me know what you think. I'm genuinely looking for constructive feedback to make it better. What do you love? What's missing? What can be improved?

Thank you for letting me share this milestone with you all. This community rocks.

Has anyone else here experienced that first moment when your project started to pay off? I'd love to hear your stories!

TL;DR: I'm an Italian dev who was frustrated with existing vehicle management apps, so I built my own (GarTrack). I just got my first paying Pro user from the Netherlands and the feeling is the ultimate motivation. If you have a passion project, start now! And if you're a vehicle geek, you can find GarTrack on the App Store (iOS only for now, Android coming soon!) and I'd love your feedback.

    1. Hilarious, been looking to build this myself because of a lack of interesting options.

I track every service, including suggestions, notes, cost, date, and who did it. Would love to track stuff like specific settings and details (especially for my motorcycles).

    2. just curious, where do you store the user’s data? is that local. cloud?

if cloud, do you own the server or are you renting it(if so where from?)

if local, how do you solve the transference of the data if a user gets a new phone, or wants the data available on multiple devices? (a sharing feature through qr code or something would be awesome! in that case)

do you run Ads on the free version or what is the limiting factor that would push people to buy the app?
