This week, I signed the contract for my dream job – something I thought was completely impossible at the beginning of this year.

But let me start from the beginning.

In my early 20s, I was incredibly ambitious. I thought the world was mine to take. But over the years, life became dull. I stopped thriving and started merely existing. The fire in me faded. I had a decent job with decent pay. My colleagues and manager were fine. But I felt nothing for the work I was doing.

Most evenings, I came home exhausted and numbed myself with weed and brain-rotting content. This went on for four years – until I finally made the decision to change at the start of this year.

To be honest, the first three months nothing really happened. I wanted change, but couldn’t break the cycle. Then, by pure luck, I stumbled across a book that changed everything: Atomic Habits. For the first time, I decided to not just read advice but actually apply it.

    Here’s how it started:

    • I quit weed and replaced it with good meals and early nights.

    • I started going to the gym 2-5 times a week.

    • I limited all social media apps to 10 minutes per day.

    • I began tracking everything I did.

That made a huge difference. Seeing progress made it fun, and I started to feel ambitious again.

Since then, I’ve tracked over 430 hours of productive time – on top of my full-time job. I dove deep into technical topics I’d always been curious about. And then one night, I randomly saw a job on LinkedIn that aligned perfectly with my interests. Almost without thinking, I applied.

Honestly, I didn’t even expect a reply. It was more of a "why not" moment – the kind of moment where, four months earlier, I’d have been on the couch high out of my mind.

Four weeks later, the contract was signed. And now, life feels like a completely different ball game. Maybe I was lucky. But luck only matters if you're in the game. And I would have never been in the game if I hadn't started changing my habits.

If you're in a similar place: stuck, burned out, unsure of your potential, here’s my message to you:

You don’t have to fix everything overnight.
    Start small.
Start by quitting the habits that are draining your energy.
When you feel a little better, start moving your body.
    Then do a little more.
    And a little more.

For me, it took six weeks before I really felt momentum. But once I did, life started feeling like something I could build instead of something I have to endure.

Especially this week has been pure ecstasy. Not because of the salary. But because, for the first time in years, I feel like I’m actually living.

    1. What are you using to track your activities?  Also congrats!  I’m probably twice your age and recently stopped drinking.  I feel great.
