
Wooden screw press for cloth at the Workshop of Lanarius. Herculaneum, Italy. This torcular or pressorium was used for clothing, most likely to squeeze water out of recently washed clothing, but also possibly to finely press fabrics once dry. Roman. (ca. 79)[1588×1638]
