      How do “first-rate” and “bully” rank against each other on the quality scale?

      Also, this guy seems to be making the classic mistake of bragging about things mainly only dudes care about when trying to impress the ladies.

      I’m intrigued by the “chance for a spinster” headline. Was he looking for an older woman? Pretty sure you’re not a spinster at 18.

      I hope he succeeding in finding a wife to love, be loved by, and to build a satisfying life with.

      This ad is from 1865, the Civil War had just ended, and too many men from both sides had either been killed outright, or mentally and physically scarred for life.

      This man sounds like a good catch to me. Proven hard worker and willing to show his hand.

      So apparently a man from New York advertised that he could “furnish” any man with a wife. Maine resident John Morris replied with the above. The advertiser responded by telling him of a nearby asylum for idiots. Can’t find the original article.
