Toby’s 9. He’s disabled and non-verbal after getting meningitis at birth. He can say about ten words total. Usually just one or two at a time.
Some days I feel like I’m walking through fog — like no one sees him, or us. Like we’re just trying to survive quietly.
But then there are moments like this morning. He looked at me, smiled, and clearly said “More toast.”
Not much to most people. But to me, it’s everything.
I’ve been trying to write my way through it — not for likes, just to make sense of it all.
For anyone out there holding it together one moment at a time — this one’s for you.
