The letter of Vaz de Caminha to Manuel I of Portugal, is the first ever literary description of Brazil. It includes detailed descriptions of the Tupi indigenous peoples, whom Vaz describes as innocent, simple and free from shame or modesty, attributes he sees confirmed in their nakedness [1160×1640]

    1. I think it’s sweet how he describes them as innocent and beautiful. The Portuguese colonization was not without controversy, I think it’s interesting to see the other side.
