In March 1942 crown prince Gustav Adolf travelled to Finland to present Mannerheim with one of the finest honous Sweden can grant, the order of the Sword but not only that he was made a knight of the grand cross first class. This class of the order is granted only during war and only to to high ranking officers. Not even the king is allowed to wear the insignia of a knight of the grand cross unless a “Swedish army under His command has been victorious, either through combat or conquest”.

[Here](https://phaleristica.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/mannerheim-4.jpg?w=1024) crown prince Gustav Adolf presents the order, and [here](https://phaleristica.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mannerheim_rsomstk1kl_cropped.jpg) he wears it.
