      **LOT Polish Airlines Flight 5055** was a scheduled international passenger flight from [Warsaw](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warsaw), [Poland](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People%27s_Republic_of_Poland) to [New York City](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_City), the United States. In the late-morning hours of 9 May 1987, the [Ilyushin Il-62M](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilyushin_Il-62) operating the flight crashed in the [Kabaty Woods](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabaty_Woods) [nature reserve](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nature_reserve) on the outskirts of Warsaw around 56 minutes after departure.
